In today’s world, our smile means a lot. It can influence whether we get a job, get a date, or make a good first impression. Many people seek teeth bleaching treatment, usually at their dentist’s office. However, some people aren’t good candidates for teeth bleaching. Dr. Jeffrey Ingber, of Metropolitan Dental Center Metro Imaging Center, serving the Lapeer, MI area, has been practicing for over 40 years. He wants all his patients to feel great about their smiles. When traditional teeth whitening doesn’t work, he recommends teeth bonding to get the job done.

What is teeth bonding?

Dental bonding is a natural looking resin material that is applied to your teeth. This technique can be used to repair decayed teeth, repair a chip in a tooth or even a crack, to improve the look of stained teeth, to change the shape of the teeth, or to shield an exposed tooth root.

One reason regular whitening might not work:

Some stains are inside the tooth, called intrinsic stains. They can be caused by too much fluoride as a child, or the use of tetracycline antibiotics either used while a child is in the womb or by a child younger than 8 years old. Whitening is most effective on stains that are on the outside of the teeth.

How bonding works:

The surface of the tooth is etched and a conditioning liquid is used. This helps the bonding material stick to your tooth. The resin is applied, molded, and smoothed. A special light is used to harden the material to your tooth. Your bonded teeth do not require care beyond a good oral hygiene routine.

We want all our patients to have healthy and beautiful smiles. Don’t despair if you’ve been told whitening won’t work. We can get results. Call today (248) 365-7737.
